Monthly or Before a Long Trip:

Check engine belts for wear and tension

Check battery fluid level

Check automatic transmission fluid level

Every Six Months:

Check wheel lug bolts for tightness

Change oil and oil filter (or every 3,000 miles)

Replace windshield wiper blades

Inspect exhaust system for cracks or leaks

Check power steering and brake fluid levels

Check air filter element

Inspect battery terminals for corrosion

Lubricate all hinges and door locks

Have brake pads or shoes inspected for wear

Inspect tires carefully for extent of wear and unusual wear patterns

Rotate tires if indicated in owner's manual

Have wheel alignment checked if tires are wearing unevenly
