Bobby brings bright bells.
Running reindeer romp 'round red wreaths.
Tiny Timmy trims the tall tree with tinsel.
Chilly chipper children cheerfully chant.
Two trains travel together to Toyland.

FOOD FOR SANTA CLAUS

Food to leave out for Santa Claus

On Christmas Eve, this is what I would like you to leave out (not all of them but some):

  1. Barley sugar sweets for me to suck on if I start to feel airsick. Also extra strong peppermints to keep me warm on the frosty nights.
  2. Cookies or biscuits with a glass of lemonade or milk.
  3. Leave a hot jug of cocoa with a sifter of chocolate and cinnamon, and a bowl of punch in case Santa feels like something stronger.
  4. Choclates! Yum! Yum! (NO CHOCOLATES for Comet!)
  5. For the reindeer, leave a bundle of sweet meadow hay, a bunch of reindeer moss and a crisp red apple.
Tah! Santa. Santa's most favorite is cookies, but he'll eat just about anything that you like and that you leave for him on Christmas Eve.

Reindeer Sandwiches

  1. Whole wheat bread
  2. Peanut butter
  3. Raisins
  4. Red apple slices
  5. Pretzel sticks
  6. Gum drops
  7. Make four slice of bread triangles. Spread peanut butter on two of the triangles. Decorate with raisins for eyes, a slice of red apple for the mouth, a gum drop for the nose, and pretzels for the antlers.
  8. Serve on paper plates and spread them out for the reindeer to eat.

Santa's Snack Truffles

Word from the North Pole is that even Santa is watching what he eats during the holiday season. He needs to keep his energy level up and his weight down in preparation for the Big Night. If there is one thing Santa can not stand, it is when that belly of his bogs him down in one chimney or another, throwing his whole schedule off.

You can do your part to help Santa by making him a plateful of these fruit-and-nut truffles. They are attractive and packed with delicious, natural, high-energy sugars. The ingredients are easy to measure, there is no cooking required and the goodies are simple to shape. Just roll'em into balls and dredge them in the coconut coating. It is so easy that even young children can pitch in. Of course, you will want to man the steps requiring use of a food processor.

  1. Start to finish: 30 minutes
  2. 1/2 cup Flaked Coconut
  3. 3 Tbsp. Powdered Sugar
  4. 3/4 cup coarsely Chopped Walnuts
  5. 8 oz. Pitted Dates
  6. 1/2 cup Raisins
  7. 1/2 cup Dried Cranberries
  8. 1/3 cup Flaked Coconut
  9. 1 Tbsp. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  10. 1/4 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
  11. 1/4 cup Creamy Peanut Butter

    1. For coating, place the 1/2 cup coconut and powdered sugar into food processor bowl. Cover and process until coconut is finely chopped. Transfer mixture to shallow dish; set aside.
    2. For truffles, place walnuts, dates, raisins, cranberries, the 1/3 cup coconut, cocoa powder, and cinnamon in the food processor bowl. Cover and process or blend until finely chopped, stopping to scrape down sides as necessary.
    3. Add peanut butter. Cover and process until mixture is moist enough to form a ball.
    4. Using hands, shape the mixture into 1-inch balls. Dredge or roll the balls in coconut mixture, gently patting the mixture onto sides of balls. Transfer to storage container. Cover; store at room temperature up to 7 days. Makes 30.
    5. Nutrition facts per ball: 79 cal., 4 g total fat (1 g sat. fat), 0 mg chol., 11 mg sodium, 11 g carbo., 1 g fiber, and 1 g pro. Daily Values: 0% vit. A, 0% vit. C, 1% calcium, and 2% iron.
